There is more to using your smart phone than, well, just turning it on and using it. So here are some of our top tips to get the most from it and keep it running in tip top condition!
TURN OFF BACKGROUND DATA
Okay, some background data is needed on your phone apps, to keep you up to date with the latest emails and other social media feeds.
However, there are some app updates that you can live without -like for games, for example. These applications are essentially draining your battery life and can be switched off.
For Android phones you can set the background data for each app in the settings. Select data usage and then find the app you want and if you want to, you can limit it. This can also have the added bonus of stopping you accidentally exceeding your data allowance.
For IOS phones this can also be turned off on an individual basis. Select settings and then general, then go to background app refresh. Voila!
DON’T USE YOUR PHONE AND CHARGE IT AT THE SAME TIME
Did you know that there was a reason for those extremely short and very annoying leads that chargers come with? The reason they are so very difficult to plug in and still use, is because, you’re not really supposed to use them whilst charging.
It affects the battery life quite badly, so it is discouraged by the makers!
USE LOW POWER MODE WHEN YOU CAN’T RECHARGE
If your phone is on IOS9 then you can select low power mode when there is no hope of charging up your battery. Go to settings, and then battery and pick low power mode.
This will turn off non essential functions and can provide up to four more hours of life for your battery!
A TV COULD SAVE YOUR SMART PHONE BATTERY’S LIFE
This is a tip that is particularly useful in a hotel room. If you have brought the cable needed to charge your cell phone, but haven’t got the plug, then it can be plugged into the USB port on the TV in the hotel room.
Of course, this depends on the type of TV in the room, but most TVs come with these as standard nowadays.
This tip can save your phone’s bacon when it is running out of power and also save on the need for you to pack big heavy plugs with you.
